Episode 3. Superpowers: The Enabler
“Don’t you think it’s a bit…..weird.”
This was the comment from my wife that made me realise I had a skill that not everyone had. A work superpower if you like.
I’d been working from home, hammering away on my keyboard switching between client presentations, writing tender copy, developing marketing plans and working on growth forecasts. All in one morning. Dipping into one, and out to another.
“How can you just keep switching between stuff?”
I’d always assumed that was how everyone works. Having multiple mental tabs open at the same time and switching between each based on what ground you need to cover that day and the deadline for each project.
Turns out I had assumed wrong!
Context switching and hyper focus.
These are the two skills that come naturally to me. Two skills that sound like opposites but come as a well-oiled pair.
Context switching is the ability to run multiple workstreams concurrently, picking each one up and putting it down without losing the thread.
Hyper focus is locking onto something with real intensity when you land on it, going deep for a sustained period of time without breaking focus.
Work-wise, having both, enables me to cover a lot of ground in a short space of time. For fractional delivery, that’s essential.
Everyone has a work superpower. But everyone is built differently, so those superpowers will come in many different forms.
Maybe you have an innate ability to recognise patterns in data. Or you have exceptional judgment. Or you’re the person that brings energy to everything you do and every place you go that helps push others to succeed.
Superpowers are the inherent abilities that enable you to do what you do at the level you do.
They’re the engine of your success.
